DEFY INK 2024
The project is for exhibition held by Chinese ink contemporary artist, Yeo Shih Yun, from mid January to early February in the year of 2024. The exhibition is a collectors' showcase of works from her formative years as an artist where she began branching out into different ways to relegate control over her brush to artists that were non-human, like trees and music.

MASTHEAD RATIONALE
The event masthead, to be composed of 2 text elements (墨非 // DEFY INK) was designed with stippled treatment to the typography to mimic soot, the original form of Chinese ink, and features custom letterforms which were extended to create a sense of motion like dripping ink. The colour black was primarily used as an ode to the artist's main medium of Chinese ink, but in other parts of the project accent colours were suggested based on the other artworks featured in this exhibition. Multiple lock-ups featured also acted as a tribute to resonate the same free and unbound spirit found in the process of Shih Yun's works.
The vertical masthead also pays respect to one of Shih Yun's inspirations, John Cage (his typographic poems ie. the correspondence to Mary Sisler) as well as vertical Chinese calligraphy.

CLEAN POSTERS RATIONALE
The design of posters features 2 main elements, with an additional one for the directional poster.
1st: The timeline element can be observed across other deliverables as well, and it was added to feature the different exhibitions and events that the artist Yeo Shih Yun has participated in or held up to this day, showing off her growth and progress. Works that were to be featured in the exhibition are also labelled in the timeline, with those respective years being pushed out to draw attention to them.
2nd: The artist's branding for the event was such that the English is combined with the Chinese characters in a singular lock-up, with the Chinese jutting out representing Shih Yun's practices of weaving Western styles with Chinese ink, transcending set boundaries and norms of the traditional medium.
INTERVENTION
Interventions by the artist, Yeo Shih Yun, were proposed as a collaboration between design and art so as to realise the same kind of collaboration that the artist has with trees, music, and robots aiding her in creating her works. Whilst the directional poster featured a digitally scanned version of intervention, the collectible posters saw different and unique interventions to each and every copy, making them a special gift or memorabilia of the event.
OTHER DELIVERABLES
AR FILTER
An AR filter was proposed to create a more interactive experience as well as allow those who weren't physically at the exhibition to also be part of it through a digital experience, stepping out of the confines of just purely having a physical exhibition.
